growing buildings on and off planet
Born out of research from NASA’s NIAC program, redplanet workshop is transforming architecture to become a generator of life in contrast to the status quo of the building industry as a great destroyer of life and planet.

nature transforms
The human species will be interplanetary in mere decades. We now have a chance to bring life to barren planets and regenerate the one we’ve carelessly treated for millennia
Building shells become bioreactors that transform in situ resources like water and regolith into multifunctional bioterials. The bioterials are insulative, radiation attenuating, impact resistant, and self-healing.
nature protects
Melanin-rich fungi are being researched for their ability to transduce ionizing radiation into benign forms of energy and metabolize it into biomass. This could convert outer space’s biggest liability - space radiation - into an asset for building and protect human travelers. We’ve exposed these bioterials to the vacuum of space on the outside of the ISS on MISSE 12 and 13 missions and are currently researching their radiation attenuating abilities. nature conserves
By utilizing in situ water, gasses, and regolith, buildings can be biomanufactured at remote destinations saving transport energy and cost.
